I know I go on and on about being from the South, but I’m going to do it again. Being Southern there are expectations put on you for behavior. Manners are to be polished all the time. For example, my wife was walking down the hall at church the other day talking to my buddy’s son. This boy is all of 12 years old. He’s big and Southern and he has been raised right and the way I know this is he opened every door for my wife as they walked. He made sure to hold the door and stand to the side as she walked through. I know that this must all be by effort of my buddy’s wife because my friend, himself, never behaved with such manners. I felt proud in my heritage for a moment. I made me smile to know that our Southern heritage is still alive.
